I want to use 3d printer board for CNC. Because I want to use stepticks for motors and its compact. I have read that remora works on stm32f4 based boards.
ARe these boards suitable for hobby grade 5 axis machines? Remora don't support tmc5160 which i want to use. So no option left for me except using 8825 driver.
What will be difference if i use stm32f4 via spi or if i use w5500 via spi-ethernet. I have choosen mks octopus pro stm32f429 board. Is it good enough.
Or i can use my existing MKS Tinybee board with w5500 spi-ethernet interface? I have seen someone using esp32 with w5500. But in Tinybee stepper signals are derived from i2s bus. Not directly from gpio pins.
I think I have too many questions. I help will be appreciated.

Hey, we usually hang out in this thread

www.forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/42276...ller-via-spi?start=0

You can use the TMC5160, but they cant be configured via SPI. you can also use uart tmc2208/9 drivers

The octopus f429 is a good board, and it will run fine.
The difference between rpi-spi and w5500 versions, RPI-SPI version has more support/features. In my opinion, these boards are perfectly fine for anything using stepsticks.
But I have not yet completed the supporting firmware for the f429 on w5500 ethernet.

Thanks for reply.
I have already ordered MKS OCTOPUS pro 429 version. With w5500 spi-ethernet and 8266 wifi adapter. I will be using drv8825 until there is support for tmc5160. I have read that I can use 5160 in standalone mode, for which I have to manually jumper some pads, but it will be unsafe for low current small motors. So till time I will stay with 8825 stepsticks.
IS stm32f429 board is good enough for 5 axis hobby grade machine?
Should I try ethernet option or go straight to spi version?

Is there any plans to support esp32 boards? Seen some videos with esp32 and w5500. I have MKS Tinybee board already running FluidNC. If i can use it with w5500? But my board don't have gpio pins directly connected to stepper driver. They are connected through i2c.

The octopus 429 will be good.
I would use the spi version, it has the best support. The ethernet version is not released yet for the 429.

As for an esp version, I could not comment. that is a separate project from remora.

I didn't know that ethernet will not work in 429 board. I thought it has 1mb flash so it will be good than 446. 429 is a little bit costlier and hard to find. 446 and 7xx is easier to find. Anyway i placed order for 429 and w5500. Hope spi will be good enough for me.

Just putting it out there, Octopus has no ethernet, it has an RJ11 connector (6 pins), not an RJ45 (8 pins).

I know it has RJ11 connector, I was asking about using w5500 based spi-ethernet interface. For connecting octopus pro via ethernet.
