Andy,

First I'm sorry to make silly questions, this is my very first experience with Linux.

Unless the computer shop fool me when I specifically asked one motherboard with it, I have it. Here is the motherboard that I have, at least the connector is there:

ASUS P5641T-M-LX2/BR

br.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_77...X2BR/#specifications

As the result from the command you suggested...

Andy,

I think that what I have is a serial port, not a parallel port. (I was fooled) if that is true, I have to claim that with the computer shop. How can I know that for sure? (I just want to play dumb once) :S

What motherboard is it?

It might be that there is a header for a parallel port on the motherboard, but it needs an adapter and to be enabled in the BIOS.
This is the case with the Intel D510MO, for example.

Have you tried ...

From a terminal

dmesg|grep parport

lspci will show pci parallel ports but not motherboard parallel ports, which is why I suggested you try both earlier.

What parallel cable are you using? Is it plugged into a add in card or on the motherboard?

The Asus link you posted the purple plug is a parallel port plug. It was not in English and I could not find that exact motherboard on the Asus web site so I could not check anything else.

I'm using the Sherline CNC Kit,

I think that what I have is a serial port, not a parallel. I will contact the computer shop.

Thanks

John

The picture shows a purple port, but in fact my one is blue. I think that I have a serial port not a parallel one. I will buy a parallel board, is a cheap board....
