Hello to all!
This is my first post, I am having a problem with my mill. I upgraded from to the latest version of emc2, using axis gui on a 3 axis bridgeport. i upgraded by reformatting the computer using the live cd and installing from scratch. I did save my old configs folder so i have all my tuning parameters when i get to that. My reason for upgrading was to take advantage of the improvements in axis, mainly the bugfixes and the ability to restart at a selected line of code.

so here is my problem, using ppmc board set, 3 axis cnc on bridgeport mill, upon trying to open emc, i get the emc2 error print file window, i ge the debug info as follows:

Hal: Error: pin' axis.3.motor-pos-fb' not found
ppmc_servo.hal:20 link failed
5242
pid tty stat time command
stop realtime threads
unloading hal components

and dmesg., as follows: WHAT DO I DO NOW? I GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP I CAN GET, AND I WOULD LIKE TO PUBLICLY THANK JON ELSON FOR HIS WELL MADE PPMC BOARDS, THEY WORK GREAT AND HE HAS HELPED ME OUT OVER THE LAST COUPLE BUMPS I HAD TO "MILL DOWN", eh eh eh

thanks

Update, 7/9/2009;

I changed my .ini axes section from 3 axis back to four and was able to get axis gui to come up., i will have to shake it down after work today and see if all is well. There appears to be a problem when i disable the 4th axis. with my old version, you could change it from 4 to 3 without issue?

Also, for the new comers to emc, make sure your parrallel port is set to epp mode, this is done on your computer, use the f2 or f12 what have you when you restart your computer to enter the setup menus, find this and change it. that caused me some problems earlier.

If you have things in your hal file that are looking for the 4th axis then it will not load until you remove them. Usually the pop up window tells you what is missing. In the middle somewhere.

You might look for a line like this one in your hal file.

setp stepgen.3.position-scale [AXIS_3]SCALE

then make sure you remove all the items for the 4th axis.

I decided not to delete anything and just re enabled the 4th axis, set all homing vel to zero. It doesnt bother me much to have the A axis displayed for now. I have other problems though.

I have all three servo axis running now, and they home properly. I described a homing sequence in .ini. axis doesnt allow 'home all' for some reason so i need to get a more thorough look at that.

I can run the emc2 axis logo program without issue. However if i try to run 3d chips (from example files) or others, i get no movement at all., and it really drags the computer down, it gets sticky, takes forever to abort, mouse movements are slow, etc etc. I think im having problems with hal_manual_toolchange, . If i run axis.sim these programs run fine so i am going to print out all the sim configs and take them out to the shop and compare them to my data and see if i have fouled something up.

I also want to put in HOME_FINAL_VEL, I put it in the .ini files under each axis with a setpoint but it is still moving fast after it picks up the marker pulse.

145.527511] rtapi: no version for "nano2count" found: kernel tainted. <<<< What does this mean, looks bad to me?

so im still jammed up over here, ill post with my findings. if anybody sees any obvious things let me know.

Did you use the Stepconf Wizard to create you configuration files? If you did then just run it again and remove the pins for the A axis and it will take care of the rest.

Home All only works when you have all of the axis home sequences in the ini file. Since you don't have a 4th axis this would not work until you remove the 4th axis or set that axis to -1.

What did you set home final vel to? it is in units per second...

i didnt use stepconf, i have servos, so i set all of my parameters manually a while back, i edited the files manually when i upgraded. I think home sequence i messed up, reading the manual the first sequence is 0, i think i started with one. I have to check that and fix it tonight when i get home from work. I will get some notes and post actual problems with the proper nomenclature later on. thanks for your help john. im also going to copy the axis manual toolchange lines as they are in the sim file, putting them in the same place on my .ini. I think i set the home final vel to the same as home latch vel, i would like it to not go to rapid speed on final approach to the home offset position.

I prefer a less than rapid speed to home as well.

In the Trunk version there is a servo wizard called pcconf. As I recall it is for Mesa 5i20 card but I have not looked at it in a month or two. Dunno if that helps or not.

hello to all, here is my status as of now,,

1. i set my home sequence as follows, axis-0, 0 axis1,1 axis-2, 1 axis-3, 1., but i still dont get the home all option.

2. Home_final_vel, this doesnt seem to work either. i set this to .5 for axis 1 and 2, z axis doesnt get moved for home, home is where ever same with a axis.

3. most important, i am having major issues when i try to run a program. first lets start with what does work, i can home all axis, jog, mdi etc. computer mouse response is fast. i can run the axis logo program fine. (there are no tool changes, remember this because i think its related) .
now i can run all example programs and get prompted for tool changes when i run axis.sim.

on my machine, when i try to run chips3d.ngc, i get no motion, no prompt for tool changes, and the computer gets glitchy and slow. if i hit stop, and go to mdi, i can type in machine movements and nothing happens. emc status shows it is at t1m6. i can however jog and rehome the axis, but no programs will run after this happens. below please find my dmesg results. can the developers or someone look at this and see if my install is messed up? i also made the mistake of saying 2.3.1, but i believe it is 2.3.2. i am going to go and try to comment out # anything that is for the 4th axis, because i am not using it and see if that has any effect. i think my problem may be in my ini file , what do i need to have in my ini for hal manual toolchange, and also in the hal load file, i am using the ppmc axis , on a 3 axis bridgeport. if you need any other info to investigate this problem please ask. my personal email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. also. i can also give my phone number out if anyone cares to talk in person. I would really like to get my machine back up and running., i new i was taking a risk when i updated, but i didnt think it could be so hard ooops.
