What version of Linuxcnc?
If your using a newer version of Linuxcnc, it is possible the conversion scrip became broken with the switch to Python3.
Here is a config I quickly wipped up using your xml file and an older version of Linuxcnc. You "should" be able to open and modify it with Stepconfig in your current version of Linuxcnc.

PS: I only imported the xml and made no other settings and tabbed/oked through all of the Stepconfig menus, so I'm sure you will need to go through and make some changes to get the config fully funcional. But the basics should be there, such as the right step/dir pins assigned to each axis, and axis scaling.

Yes, master is "2.10" currently.
I don't know how long before those changes will be built as the buildbot seems to be having issues with some builds:
buildbot.linuxcnc.org/buildbot/grid

If it builds will the version number bump? I use the synaptic manager to install the system so I am not sure how it will handle the updates.

I see that it is available now. If the buildbot is in your apt sources list then it should upgrade to the latest built version when you do an apt update then then an apt upgrade.
