Your 3-jaw chuck looks to be unusually bad. Are the jaws in the right slots?

Your wooden machine seems to be stiffer than my iron machine.
have you considered CNC-converting the lathe?

Hello andypugh,
I'm quiet surprise with the stiffness of this machine made with plywood. I do design it like torsion box, so wood always work in the best condition to support milling forces.
Yep for the lathe, I'm in a process to think about a CNC conversion. But I need to study it deeply to avoid any mistake.
I agree with the 3 jaw chuck, I did made them with soft steel to be able to machine them to increase diameter.
