Hi.
After waking from sleep or hibernation, LunuxCNC loses ability to control the machine.
Nothing coming out of parallel port.
Full reboot of machine is required.
Any remedy short of disabling sleep?

I do not recall having this issue ever, but i am sure i never ever allow machine controlling PC's to sleep or especially no hibernation, that can be very dangerous or at least mess the machine up.
I would say no, just disable sleep and hibernation.
I do not allow monitors to sleep on machines, why would they, if the machine is on, monitor and PC must be on.
Having got that out of the way, i mentioned above i did not have this issue although i had PC's sleep many, many times (before i got to disabling it) and wake up and continue working as normal, so i would blame that on ACPI implementation on that particular PC.

oh okay, it's a super old laptop, maybe that's why.
Thanks a lot tommylight!
This helps as I'll get news hardware that can go this gracefully.
Dangerous both ways, casue if PC fails somehow - vfd/spindle turns on..
lol, Pin17 relay on cheap parallel breakout.,
so to remedy
I power off vfd/dc power to CNC when not in use. Computers stay on.
When need to use CNC, vfd/dc power switched on, PC woken up,
cutting resumes (position never lost - so no re-homing).
fast + power economy

You can make a simple charge pump that will prevent spindle from running if no pulses are present on a set pin. It takes 2 capacitors, 1 or 2 resistors and a darlington transistor, so if you feel like giving it a go, i can draw a quick schematic, or just google " diy charge pump cnc" .
