I think I'm in over my head.

Well I just bought a 3 axis knee mill with an Anilam Crusader M control that no longer works, so I bought the Mesa 5i25 and 7i77 to use with it. I am going to to use the existing servo drives and SEM servo motors. I have setup machines on mach3 using stepper motors and four d it to be fairly easy to do. But reading about Linux and using a closed loop I thought this would be the best way to go. Unfortunately Linux is a bit harder to figure out. Anyways I have the 5i25 and 7i77 hooked up and tried the pncconf and when I was done it wouldn't open. If anyone could possibly help me out I would be very appreciative.
Thanks Mike

What wouldn't open?
For a start I would post the ini and hal files from your config folder.

Hi,

First off, those usually have SEM DC Servos, so govern yourself accordingly because the 7i77 is +-10V.
Depends of the drivers if you can use the 7i77.

The 5i25 and 7i77 is the easiest set of cards to setup and run.
1. Make sure you have 5v jumpers setup correctly on the 5i25 and 7i77, whether you have the PC providing the 5v or external 5v.
2. Make sure you have field voltage connected correctly, (see the 7i77 manual).
3. pncconf does a good job on the 5i25 / 7i77 config. Do a simple basic config with pncconf then manually edit the config files to suit your needs.

You are going to need to provide more info than "it wouldn't open". Please provide the details of the error messages.
Also you might want to post your hal and ini files.

Regards,

Bob

Well, it would be odd for PnCConf to create a config that wasn't correct, so the most likely problem is that the 7i77 smart-serial section is not reporting for duty, so some HAL pins that PnCConf expects to see are not present.

Can you paste the error report into a reply? There is a "select all" button on the error dialog, and then Ctrl-C will copy the text.

Typically you see this problem if the 7i77 field-IO section is not powered. So make sure that you have field-power connected. That IO section has a small processor that is powered from the field power.

OK wasn't the motherboard, the 5i25 wasn't in the pci slot correctly. Now I have been reading some other posts and I forgot to say that I first bought the Mesa 5i25 and 7i76, but then decided to go with the 7i77, would the firmware in the 5i25 need to be updated to be compatible with the 7i77.
Thanks Mike
