To Filipe and Peter:
What is the status 7i97, 7i95, 7i77, 7i96S, 7i92TM?
For now, i need a 7i97 or 7i92/7i77, but i can mix and match from the above.
Preferably in Portugal as this will be ordered through a company in Austria, same company/owner already ordered twice from eusurplus.
I would really hate to yank out mine from the Mazak, but would submit if there is 7i77D in the mix! :)
Would make the wiring neater in the Mazak as i had to make inverters for every output on 7i77 and 7i84.
Thank you.

The only Mesa stuff not used yet is a 6i25 and a 7i73, i am used to having a full suitcase. :(

Filipe should have 7I96S + 7I95T + 7I92TM later this month

We should have 7I97T protos (7I97 replacement) soon
7I77s will be a while as they require re-design

An interim solution for Analog drives is a 7I95T and a 7I83,
7I96S+7I89+7I83 or the 7I97T proto

The 7I77 replacement (7I77U) like the 7I76EU can do sinking or sourcing outputs
under software control

Sorry, he does still have a low amount of 7i92TM, but not the rest.

OK, so leaving this for later, maybe.
The thing is, they lost the 7i77.
They have 2 machines (Elumatec and Hurco), both use 7i92 or 5i25 with 7i77 and 7i74 and 7i70 and 7i71, but someone took 7i92 form Hurco a while back and now they lost 7i77, the rest is there. Hurco was not used waiting for a big a$$ VFD and Elumatec is in daily use. They also have a plasma with 7i76E and THCAD in daily use.

An interim solution for Analog drives is a 7I95T and a 7I83,
7I96S+7I89+7I83 or the 7I97T proto
Hmmm how come i did not know about 7i83??? That can also be used through a 7i74 or 7i96S or ....

The 7I77 replacement (7I77U) like the 7I76EU can do sinking or sourcing outputs
under software control
Oh how niceeeee, no more soldering mess for me! :)

Welectron in Germany seems to have over 10 of 7i96S
www.welectron.com/Mesa-Electronics-7i96S...-Ethernet-Controller
Question, does adding a 7i85 or 7i85S to 7i96S do encoders? I always mix those as i never used the 7i85/S and still not sure what it can do, despite reading several times, i keep messing those up. I think i read here that one of those can be used for encoders, so do not shoot if i am wrong! :)

Thinking out loud, how viable is :
ethernet
3 step/dir
3 encoders
at least 2 of smart serial
a single IDC26 header, or not
some IO
no spindle
?
Probably not much as it will need the FPGA, but maybe, just maybe something smaller with more availability?
-
My brain is mush from looking at cheap servo drives/motors and their less than ideal info, but seems the trend is always have the step/dir inputs.
Also, plenty of lathe retrofits around here, so total of 3 needed, plenty of mills use modbus/RS485 for spindle control so again 3 total.

Tommy,

I've got a 7i96s + 7i85s +7i84d + 7i73 in my current project

7i96s => sserial => 7i84d
7i85s => sserial => 7i73

Gives me
  • 9 S&D outputs
  • 5 hs encoder inputs (1 on 7i96s, 4 on 7i85s)
    • spindle, sub-spindle, live-tool, plus X & Z scales!
  • 1 analog spindle output
  • ~60 inputs (using 4x8 matrix keypad on 7i73)
    • 4 0-36v analog inputs
    • 4 0-3.3v analog inputs
    • 6 (!) MPG encoder inputs
  • ~40 outputs
  • 32 button inputs on matrix keypad
Packaging is very easy - the 7i96s and 7i85s are small and can stack if you're clever, and both the 7i84d and 7i73 can be mounted remote from the main enclosure with a simple cat5/6 cable and field power wires (i.e. use a separate box for the field IO closer to wherever your stuff is located on the machine).

This is a stupid amount of capability and IO for four comparatively low-cost boards.

Sooooo a 7i92 with 7i85S and 7i74, then anything sserial like 7i83 and the existing 7i70 and 7i71 should work just fine.
Leme see if i can order 7i92TM and 7i85S and 7i83, the rest i have, and i have drives that can do analog or SD, so more room for [strike]playing[/strike] hmmm testing.
Ok,
www.welectron.com/Motion-Controller
has 7i96S and 7i72
while
www.eusurplus.com
has 7i92TM, 7i83, 7i85S, 7i72,
Notice 7i72, those are for my Mazak so i can get rid of those hideous output inverters i had to make! :)

@Andy,
Looks like cncmonster.de has become cncmonster.eu and do software stuff, nothing about Mesa that i can find and the link as is does not work.
Might add the welectron link as they are also in Germany.
@Peter,
Feel free to bite my head off if i messed up something, besides having to enrich my Mesa stash, i had to sift through to much stuff last two days as i am thinking of also getting some china servo drives and motors to [strike]playing[/strike] hmmm test and a big VFD! :)
