7i76e What's Preferred Source or Sinking Field I/O

For a build from scratch hobby machine I plan to start off with mechanical travel switches but may upgrade to proximity sensor latter on.

Is there any advantage to one card over the other (7i76E/7i76ED)?

What size 24v power supply do you typically need assuming proximity switches for limits, 24v relay?

If you are building from scratch, I think the 7I76E version is a better choice.
If you are retrofitting a machine that has relays pre-wired for a sinking driver
then a 7I76ED makes more sense.

Sourcing outputs have the advantage that a wiring short to ground will not enable an output.

Sinking outputs have the advantage that you can mix output voltage levels.

If you are only driving relays and proximity switches, 24V @ 1A should be plenty

If 11 inputs and 6 outputs will do and you don't need the analog spindle interface,
a 7I96 is another choice.
It has uncommitted outputs that can be sinking or sourcing on a per output basis.

7i96e is actually my prefered choice. But I keep going back and forth 96e vs. 76e as I try and plan the simplest way to to configure power supply(s) for the board and switches.
