I cleaned the gunk off the motor and low and behold it is a pulse encoder. On the x at least. I would hope z would be the same.

It appears to be an aa64 encoder like that which is described in the link you sent me. What Mesa card is that Andy?

The Module can be included in the firmware for any of the FPGA cards as far as I know. I am not sure if it appears on any standard firmwares.

The Fanuc spindle motor is a permanent magnent motor. You will need a vfd that can control a pm motor. They are not easy to tune. I have a Hitachi wj series controlling a 6s motor on a mill. Last I checked there is no encoder feed back to the drive available. Yaskaw a, Fuji and mistsubishi also make drives that will control a pm motor. They might by now have incorporated feed back. It's not necessary.

Sorry about the late reply.
A06B-0315-b003#7000 has the 3000P encoder with 17-pin round connector. This gives 12,000 counts/rev, differential quadrature with index. This part is totally standard. The commutation data is the Fanuc proprietary code on 4 wires, which our Fanuc Encoder Converter converts to standard "Hall" signals. The motor is actually a 10S
(there is no model 6S) which is a pretty big motor. It is rated at 7.6 A stall, so the peak is about 50 A. My PWM servo amps can deliver 20 A peak. There are some AMC servo amps that can take in digital PWM signals.

The Pico Systems universal PWM controller could be used with this.

Thanks. I'm still trying to get power to the machine to see if the original control is fixable or not. You're correct it is a 10S on the axes. The 6S was the spindle servo.
