I've been a Linux guy for years, so FreeCAD is the only game in town if you want CAD + CAM (with adaptive toolpaths, at least). I said this in the FreeCAD thread, but my experience is the CAD is pretty good, once you learn how to not make "fragile" models. The UI even seems fine to me, though there are plenty of folks who would disagree with that assessment, so YMMV.
The CAM still has some rougher edges, but I'm working on sanding off those that annoy me specifically- shameless self-promotion that making
automagic adaptive roughing
a reality is my current effort on that front. That's going to be soooooo nice to have.
I'd also suggest giving the
weekly "unstable" builds
a chance if you want to test FreeCAD- they get improvements/bugfixes well before the official releases and on average (IME) give a much better experience... with the occasional build that totally breaks something, so I always kept the previous week's build until I knew the current one didn't have anything critical broken in it*. YMMV, of course.
*past tense in that sentence only because due to the development work I've been doing I've been building my own "weekly" builds, not because I've stopped using the bleeding edge
I suspect you'll be happier without Windows/Fusion 360 based on your complaints, even if learning curves bite in the short term. The FreeCAD forum is fairly helpful if you run into problems.
