-DXF2Gcode can be used with LibreCAD
-Dmap2Gcode for depth map of images, i use it a lot for engraving

I use FreeCAD- the "Path" workbench got renamed to (more appropriately) "CAM" a while back- when searching for information on it, you may see references to both. It's adequate, getting better all the time (use the weekly builds!). Lots of little things that are obnoxious, but I haven't found anything better for any reasonable-to-this-hobbyist cost if you're doing more mechanical designs than organic/artsy. Being parametric on the CAD side and having adaptive toolpaths on the CAM side are huge for me. Definitely a learning curve, sometimes you have to go about things in unintuitive ways for various reasons to get what you want.
Depends heavily on what you're doing as well. Blender + BlenderCAM might be a good choice if you can manage the learning curve and are doing more organic/less "dimensioned" stuff. FreeCAD doesn't handle that so well IME.
If you're doing 2D/engraving type stuff, Inkscape or others might be better.
You might also end up using multiple for different things.

See if you qualify for one of the free license alternatives for Fusion 360. If you do I think it is hard to beat.
One can argue that it isn't free, at least it doesn't cost any money.

FreeCAD is going better and better. I think it is the best free long-run CADCAM.
PyCAM, DXF2GCODE and NativeCAM are outdated with no development.
If you prefer 2D/DXF in my opinion cadascam.de is a good and cheap alternative.

Wow, something I actually know something about on this forum.
For anyone wanting to explore FreeCAD I would highly recommend using the latest development versions. There are nightly builds available through a ppa but I personally would (and do) opt for the near weekly builds of the AppImages from here - github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD-Bundle/releases/tag/weekly-builds - Linux, Mac and Window$. No worries about dependences and if any given build has a showstopper bug, you can still have the last weeks to keep going until the next build that will, 99% of the time have that bug fixed. Lots of advanced and more complete features keep showing up. Especially in the CAM workbench.
FreeCAD is my daily driver and unlike this LinuxCNC stuff, I took to FreeCAD like a duck to water. I personally find it very easy to use but I know I am amoung only a few that do. There are a vast number of vids on youtube and a forum every bit as active as this one to help get you started.
For the money, you won't beat it, and before you know, you will be knocking out parts left and right.

I noticed in the latest RotarySMP video that he is using FreeCAD.
Maybe it's time for me to switch...

Hi,
What would it be a blessing if we can run Draftsight again on linux. But it's no cam solution.

Love FreeCAD, apart from one little annoying issue.
Used the CAM for making the brackets and nubbins for the Franken Myford CNC conversion. It's my Goto for anything I need to 3D print, even used to help my son with some prototyping ideas when he was doing the additive manufacturing module at Uni.
