Help with homing issue was created by MAG45
Almost got this old beast going agan with a new PC and C10 BoB. I have X and Y homing fine, all 3 switches in series NC. But all 3 axis do this weird random stepping movement toward home rather then on smooth jog. And Z i cant seem to get to home no matter what settings I have tried. Always get the 'switch inactive before latch move' or something like that.

Here is a link to a video of the Z doing this stepping toward Z and failing to back off the switch before it errors out.

Thanks for any help

I'm pretty new to this but these setting work for homing my Z. The setting of yours that I am wondering about is the negative value on the HOME_SEARCH_VEL. My HOME_SEARCH_VEL and HOME_LATCH_VEL are both positive values.

[AXIS_2]
TYPE = LINEAR
HOME = 0.0
FERROR = 0.5
MIN_FERROR = 0.05
MAX_VELOCITY = 1.0
MAX_ACCELERATION = 30.0
HOME_SEQUENCE=0
HOME_SEARCH_VEL = .90000
HOME_LATCH_VEL = .10000

# The values below should be 25% larger than MAX_VELOCITY and MAX_ACCELERATION
# If using BACKLASH compensation STEPGEN_MAXACCEL should be 100% larger.
STEPGEN_MAXVEL = 1.25
STEPGEN_MAXACCEL = 37.50
P = 1000.0
I = 0.0
D = 0.0
FF0 = 0.0
FF1 = 1.0
FF2 = 0.0
BIAS = 0.0
DEADBAND = 0.0
MAX_OUTPUT = 0.0
# these are in nanoseconds
DIRSETUP = 200
DIRHOLD = 200
STEPLEN = 1000
STEPSPACE = 2000
STEP_SCALE = 13208.000
MIN_LIMIT = -14.0
MAX_LIMIT = 0.001
#HOME_OFFSET = -.9 This makes my home position above the home switch.
HOME_OFFSET = .5 This makes my home position below the home switch.

When i tried a positive value on search velocity it searched in the wrong direction. Found on the wiki to use a neg value.

Probably you have to use home_offset at some value so it can move away from the limit switches after homing each axis. One of the switches ( on the second homed axis ) is remaining open so it can not home Z.

I have X and Y centered so completely off switches, homing Z alone. I have set the Z home offset to many different settings from .250 to -.250" and had no change in how it is acting. no mater what i have tried it clicks the switch and just barely backs off, then errors.

Anyone have any idea why is doesnt smoothly jog to home and does those seemingly random steps toward it like its scared to touch it?

Ill be back to messing with it in the morning, hope i have some things to try.

You have backlash compensation on so you have to set stepgen_maxaccel to twice the max_acceleration, in your case it should be 8, not 5.
