Building simulator version off master was created by bevins
Is there any docs on how to build simulator version of master from git? I am looking but cannot find any

Try one of the ready made deb's first, here
buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/
I never had to build a simulator, usually one of deb's works, depending on the distro you are using.
It saves a lot of time and nerves.
Look for master-sim folders

I just want something I can run to test some stuff. I am tired of testing on production machines, and hoping all goes well.

distributable due to a license incompatibility with LinuxCNC (some portions
GPL-2 only) and Readline version 6 and greater (GPL-3 or later).
What is that? followed by:

invoke configure with "--enable-non-distributable=yes". Note that on
Debian-based systems, you may be able to use libreadline-gplv2-dev instead.
