Hi at all,

Yesterday, after many Month of working without any problem, my Mill stops with an error "Positionerror ...".
My config runs on Probe Basic with a MESA 7i96S and a7i85S (for the aditional linear-encoders)

I restartet Probe Basic, but every time I tried to reference, i allways got the same error and not just one axle moves.
Also I checked the voltages and all seems OK.
To find out if there ist just a basic funktion, i startet a new config with the wizard.
After setting up the MESA 7i96s (IP 10.10.10.10), opend up the test-movement-mask, activating the axle, i tried to move the axle, but nothing. (The HAL-Scope shows a feedrate like it should do)
I Tried this for X, Y and Z but nothing!

So at this moment I`m wondering if there is a problem with the MESA Card.
Is there someone who had a similar issue and could give me a tip.
By the way, if I move the axles by hand, all the linear-Encoders at the 7i96S works fine.

Thanks a lot.
Jens

Can you give the _exact_ error message?

It feels like, for whatever reason, the motor drivers are inhibited. Do you see any movement at all?

Hi andy,

there is no movement at all.
At the wizard i testet every axle (X, Y, Z) and not just one moved.
At the HAL-Scope i could see the feedrates on every axle, but no movement.

Every tim I try to do the reference, i get this error
Motor 2 Positionssfehler

In the Terminal is the following:
[qtpyvcp.actions.machine_actions][INFO]  Homing all axes (machine_actions.py:640)
Motor 2 Positionssfehler
emc/task/taskintf.cc 976: Error on joint 2, command number 96
[qtpyvcp.plugins.notifications][ERROR]  Motor 2 Positionssfehler (notifications.py:139)

Short Update.
Fortunately, I had a second MESA 7I96s here. I flashed it to the right firmware and installed it.
After that, it seems that everything works fine now.

Will replug the old one just to check if there was no connection-problem.
I will give a feedback how it will go.

Sounds like a hardware or wiring issue with the drives or 7I96S step/dir outputs, as there is no motion
and no obvious errors.

Is there a common enable for the drives?

Can you increase the following error limits and try jogging in each direction to see if the DIR outputs
are  at valid voltage levels and change direction on reversals?

OK, looks, like the old MESA Card has an issue.
I reconnected the old one and same problem.
Now I installed the second one and everything works fine.

So it's a new experience that MESA cards can also break down sometimes.

Thanks a lot to all.
Next project ist coming with upgrade to an ATC Spindle with a Cabinet.

best regards.

No they do not break, at least none of over 70 or 80 or more i have in daily use, they never break, never fail, in over 15 years.
Most of them are on huge industrial machines, some on plasma machines that are the worst environment regarding EMI, i have Mesa 7i92 wired through 6 meters of cable to plasma source with no BOB, directly to Mesa inputs, etc etc.
They always, always fail due to miss wiring or lack of proper shielding/grounding.

OK sounds nice.
I also didn`t think that this cards realy break.
So i will test this card on my new mill if it`s ready and hope it will work in a new envirement.

Thanks Tommy

You are welcomed, always.
Be mindful of the wiring and shielding, since your machine was working fine, i doubt you have interfernce from VFD/spindle as they do produce a lot of EMI, so try to arrange spindle and high voltage wiring as far from low power/signal wiring, also use ferrite beads on the spindle motor wires near the VFD.
