Thank you tjtr33 for the good explanation of the spark process. In the last weeks (or months) i had done some experiments with a mosfet and a 60 V power supply, max 8 A. The mosfet was switched with a variable pwm signal from a esp32. A simple z axis was build from an old 3d printer. I used a hall sensor to measure the current in the gap and control the stepper motor based on a max current threshold. If a shot circuit occurs the electrode will lift up. The dielelectric fluid was distilled water. But because of the low voltage these weren't edm sparks and instead were short circuit sparks. Much more violent, loud and high wear on the electrode. See the test piece for the surface finish, it's bad. Next step would be to get a 100 V - 120 V DC power supply and close the loop with monitoring the spark gap, just as tjtr33 described it. The pwm doesn't care if a spark is good or not. But right now i don't have the time to continue this project (so another dead edm thread on the internet).

Part of the circuit i got from Peter Hofbauer, who has an excellent build log (in german) on his website:

Thanks for the reply. I will look into the links.
I've been busy withh
github.com/tjtr33/sedm
It a 3D orbiting sink edm emulator.
Emulate means it will move motprs and draw on scree,
but does not cut because it lacks
a real programmable pulse generator
a real process controll gap voltage feedback.
I am confidentr it will cut, and orbit to size given those 2 things.
I am almost blind ( AMD) so reading and coding is slow.
It cuts in X Y Z , up down left right forwards backwards
with circular and square orbitting. It has a boring cycle.
It has programmable jump ( Peck EDM). It allows
inspectio of tool and work during the cut
*PEEK RESUME QUIT. It has loadable table of power settings that are automatically sequenmced thru ( rough to finisah).
User pick out tables base on work size and materials.
Please look at the Github
and please work with me on it.

esp a quick start for sedm

Hello,
I still work on the 'sedm' project on GitHub.
But there were questions about the technology';s origin.
So i took a week (so far) to resurrect the tools I used to generate tech.
The premise is that a discharge of N amperes at Vdischarge voltage,
for T uSecs can be calculated.
It's been a challenge, as the code is Excel 4 XLM ( the pre VBA language).
It's a work in progress. I was pleased to see the inputs were Idischarge Vdischarge Tduration,
making the relationship OverBurn is proportinal to joules.
I was also pleased it listed RMS,RA,Rz and VDI surface finish values for
each discharge energy.
Is this project wanted as a Github repo?
I'll need to translate it from Excel4 with XLM
to LibreOffice(current) with Python as the macro language.
