Hi,

After a few years I pulled out my RPi4 and Mesa 7c81 from the drawer again. I tried to install raspi os 2.9.7... And that's it. After a while of inactivity my screen locked and I was done. I searched the "entire" web, but I couldn't find the password for that awesome username anywhere.

As per instructions you either set the password or username prior to writing the imagery via RPi-imager or you set the user name and password via the first boot wizard, exactly the same process as you would go through with a stock raspios image.
The change in the way the image was built was to make it easier for a user to setup thier wifi and locale, and to allow the user to select a username and password to their liking.

Thanks for the answer, but that is not possible. Option Customisation is greyed out and inactive in RPi Imager version 2.0. ISO image was :image_2025-11-10-raspios-lcnc-2.9.7-6-trixie-arm64.zip

As I said it can also be set via the first book wizard, but I'm at a loss as why RPi image doesn't allow you to set the customisations, all the while I have been building the various version that has never happened, I had to download the latest version on my Debian Dev machine.

So after booting without a password it is also not possible to change anything. But I will try an older version of Imager. Otherwise it offers an update to the new version quite aggressively.

With Imager version 1.9 it's ok.
Can I also ask what is the replacement for mesaflash --device 7c81 --addr /dev/spidev0.0 --spi --fallback --write.
I found:
halrun
halcmd: loadrt hostmot2
halcmd: loadrt hm2_rpspi
for reading (readhmid).
Or should I ask in a new forum?

After looking at the arm64 Trixie repo it appears there are no packages available for mesaflash.
One option would to be build from source.
Or to manually download the bookworm version and install that.
As it is almost 12:00 am I fear I may not be able to respond in a timely manner.

Normally this is what is needed to read Mesa boards:
mesaflash --device 5i25 --readhmid
but for SPI i would guess
mesaflash --device 7c81 --addr /dev/spidev0.0 --spi --readhmid
should work, and it should be safe to try.
If you do have more questions about Mesa boards, use the "driver boards" section of the forum.

Unfortunately, in trixie image_2025-11-10-raspios-lcnc-2.9.7-6-trixie-arm64.zip the command mesaflash --device 7c81 --addr /dev/spidev0.0 --spi --readhmid doesn't work. No 7c81 board found.
