@rodw, I haven't checked recently, but the iso had an old qtpyvcp source listed that causes some issues and requires removed to resolve. We updated the instructions to use the lockdown deb on the forum page as it doesn't have the outdated source.

In my case, I actually followed the directions and used the links that Lcvette listed, but it seems it was right around the time that changes were made to probe basic and I hadn't updated since then. There were also a few other changes I made while trying to get everything to work and also to get better latency numbers.
It wasn't a surprise that I needed to do the probe basic conversion again and although I didn't want to reload linux, I did tweak some things there and I had the same thought as Lcvette, when I had issues updating, in that it might be best to start over.
Even though Dr. Dflo did link to the proper instructions page that you guys use, I missed a step or it was updated since I followed it and with the struggles of learning it all, I may have caused some of the issues.
Lcvette spent a lot of time with me on messenger to chase down the issues. That turned out to be a great way to quickly share pictures of what I had going on.
I'm thankful he and everyone else on the forum have taken the time to help people get their machines going. I have read many threads on the forum and that helped me piece together hal ini and of course had lots of information on the hardware of converting a mill.

You can send your pull request with changes to the qtpyvcp files in this folder in the installer

If we are not told or an issue raised, it won't have changed.@rodw, I haven't checked recently, but the iso had an old qtpyvcp source listed that causes some issues and requires removed to resolve. Lcvette spent a few hours helping me last night and I learned a ton and made notes and screenshots so that I can do it again later, if needed. The linux kernel was not a realtime version, after following the install directions, so he guided me through fixing that and manually setting the network card and doing auto login for debian. I had done last two items before but did not remember how, and I had no idea how to fix the kernel, but did realize it wasn't listed as rt when seeing it while working through different screens. It was great to have someone walk me through doing it in a way that I knew would be correct. I mention all this so that if someone else finds this thread and has the same problems, they can learn a little more about their situation.
Now, my system is up to date and I was able to get a working Axis installation going. It all seems to run properly, but my ping to the mesa card is high so I will make a new post to ask for help with that (it isn't stopping me from continuing work on the machine setup).
The next steps are to copy the sim.var file and then to copy other files and folders from the machine setup directory.
My "machine setup directory" is missing “user_buttons” folder and the pbsplash.png file.
The left is my folder and the right is from the instructions page for installing Probe Basic.

if you are on the stable version it will not have the user_buttons feature yet if memory serves. that would be in the develop version for now only. you can leave it off and the pbsplash you can copy from the git directory if you would like that as the splash screen.
