Hello I am on my second Linux CNC machine retrofit and I want to use the Deckel MPG Handwheel from my FP4 in my CNC Lathe.
I thought it is a simple encoder, but it turns out it is a bit odd.
It has 2 channels one is called S0 and one S90.
They work like a kind of encoder, but the switching is unconventional.
When I turn the handwheel left it is switching first S0 and then S90 from 5V to 1V.
When I turn the handwheel right it is switching first S90 and then S0 from  1V to 5V.

So when I turn right the signal is always returning to 1V. When I turn left it is returning to 5V.

When I do not touch the wheel, the signals are ether at 5 or at 1V the states switch from try to try.

What I find odd is that the 7i95 doesn't react at all.
Tomorrow I will try a known. encoder to see if I messed up the setup.I have two encoders working for a closed loop stepper setup. I will post my ini and hal files tomorrow when I am back at the machine.

Has anybody ever encountered this type of encoder and made it work in linuxcnc?

I do not want to put too much effort in it. I like the feel of the handwheel, but if it is to much hassle I can just buy a handwheel and fit it to the machine.

Thanks as always
Andreas

S0 and S90 _sounds_ like quadrature.

And your description sounds like quadrature too.

The graphs look a _bit_ like quadrature, but a pretty funky one.

Please close.
I bought a MPG of Amazon. Works great.

I couldn't get the old Deckel on to work.
