Debugging MPG was created by kinghpole
I'm currently trying to set up a generic 4 axis mpg your find all over eBay I currently have it in a state of half working and not really sure how to de-bug it from here. The axis select works but when you spin the handwheel slowly it kind of moves the tenths place back and forth and only starts moving the machine at all when it is rapidly spun. Has anyone seen this behavior before or have any idea what's causing it?

Going to need a bit more info.

Hardware being used eg mesa or parallel port or other (actual computer system isn't required). Your hal & ini files and a schematic of how you have wired the pendant.

The board it's wired into is a Mesa 7c80 with an RPI running linuxcnc. Here are the files and wiring diagram.

Are you sure the MPG, not the pendant as a whole, is a 24v device ? You may have to open the case and check the back of the MPG itself.

What does it say on the actual MPG, not the PCB, but where the wires connect to the MPG.
Since you didn't provide a picture or link to your actual pendant I'm assuming it is similar to this type. If not you may have to provide some pictures.

If that is the actual one well it is a 5v mpg.

Like I said you will have to check on terminals of the MPG handwheel to correctly determine the voltage.

I'll try sending 5v to it.

You'll have to check what the 7c80 input values are. Which can be found in the 7c80 manual that is available the 7c80 product page.
