Trying to find pinout info? was created by customcutter
Trying to go by the "Getting Started Manual v 2.5"
Using 5i25/7i76 cards
Installed 3 axis Sherline because I thought it would be closest thing to my mill, and would have to be "configured" anyway? (Another issue but details are in "Installing LinuxCNC" subforum.
I'm in chapter 4 at 4.5 Pinout Information. How do I find my pinout information?
In chapter 5 it asks for paraport address, how do I determine that if 0X378 isn't correct?
Got to section 5.5 Axis Configuration and tried to test the Axis. It gave and error and said I had a "broken pipe". What the heck, now I'm a plumber too.

thanks,
Ken

The Sherline configuration is for a parallel port not the 5i25 7i76. Also using the Stepconf Wizard is for machines that use the parallel port to control the drives.
Best to start with a sample 5i25 7i76 configuration.
Down load the sample config from my web site

The second option is to use the pncconf wizard to generate your configuration. However out of the box the pncconf wizard doesn't have the 5i25...

thanks, John.
I'll definitely use your configuration. No need for me to reinvent the wheel.

I see Chris has some instructions on how to add the 5i25 using pncconf wizard.
linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/forum/39-...ml-files-for-pncconf
If you download the last zip file it has a script that will install the 5i25 files needed for pncconf... all rather easy. Save the zip file and extract. Click or double click on 5i25 UPDATE.sh and select run in terminal. takes a couple of seconds to do.
If you decide to try pncconf select the 5i25 from the first page and click forward till you get to the configuration page and uncheck the 7i33 sanity check and click on accept components. Go to the Smart Serial 0 tab and configure you I/O.

I see that in the third post down, Chris says these files are for 2.5.1???
I am running 2.5.0 installed from live CD. I have no internet connection on the linux computer to upgrade with. Last time I tried to install a wireless network card years ago I wasted several days trying too. Finally called in a computer geek and had him do it.
Can I download zipped update file in last post onto a thumb drive and transfer to the linux computer? Or do I have to get a network connection first and update my OS to 2.5.1?
thanks,
Ken

You can download the zip file and transfer it to the other computer. Your OS is Ubuntu 10.04, as Chris said you need to update the LinuxCNC to at least 2.5.1 to use pncconf with a 5i25.
Here is one way to update LinuxCNC without an internet connection.

Can you run run a temporary cat5e cable out to this computer just for an update?

Not sure what a cat5e cable is? I do have a long "telephone" cable on a reel that might reach. I'll see if I can locate it.

A cat5e cable is the cable you plug into the network card and router and is wider than a phone cable plug.

OK, was just reading on internet that cat5 (phone cable) will support 10T or 100T, but it didn't mention that the plug is wider. No wonder I haven't been able to connect to the server.
I'll move the computer/monitor back to the computer room install a cat5e cable and maybe, just maybe I'll be in business.
thanks,
Ken
