Axis configuration with a gecko g540 was created by cdslaughter
I am running into a configuration issue. I have connected my new gecko 540 driver to my machine and attempted to configure an axis based on my hardware.
I am using a simple setup with nema 23 motors. I am using 1/4 20 threaded rod as my lead screw. (same stuff you get at home depot).
I took the default settings and tried testing the axis with the test tool in the setup wizard. From what I can tell I have told it to move the axis 1" up and then 1" back down. But when I start the test, it only moves 3/8 of an inch (.375). I am unsure what I am doing wrong. but if anyone has any knowledge they can share, I would appreciate it.
Motor is 1.8 deg per step
Screen cap attached.

I think your microstepping setting is wrong. The 540 is 10 microsteps not 2.

I set it to 10 and it gave me 2 inches of travel, so I just changed it to 5 and it looks like it looks close.. Guess I will have to do a bit more research to figure out what each field does..
Thanks for your help

well something isn't right. You should definitely have 10 microsteps.
I think you will end up with 40,000 steps per inch.
At your max step rate I think that'll give you around 60ipm, so you should lower your max speed, and probably accelleration.
Are your sure you got 1/4-20 and not 1/2-10? Sorry if stupid question, but That is a weird problem to have with the correct settings.

Just this week I have upgraded to a G540 from a Chinese ebay driver I've been using for 4 years. I'm still using the same Nema23's.
At nearly double the voltage (48v)the motors being used do get a lot get hotter, but are quieter. I'm using 3k3 resistors.
Selecting the G540 in StepConf does not fill all the right settings. Micro stepping is 10 and the charge pump had to be set to I think pin 16 for it to work.

There is a known quirk of the 540s, they specify that the parport should be in EPP mode, for the charge pump to work.
It should work however on pin 16 in ECP mode
see
www.linuxcnc.org/index.php/english/forum...lack?limit=6&start=6
and many others on same theme
There are no stepper drive timings for the 540 in the database

If you have some good working ones, please add them to it.
regards
