I am doing a new install on the office machine along with the machine I am going to use for the plasma/router table.

I saw the Wiki is showing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

With 14.04 LTS out should I install that or stick with 10.04 LTS ??

Thanks everybody~!

Hi

I saw the Wiki is showing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

The trouble with wikis, is they sit there for ever, long after they are out of date

Go to the Home page

There are 2 supported distros, Ubuntu 10.04 based and Debian 7 (wheezy) based

10.04 is out of support from Ubuntu, so no new libs etc for it.

Wheezy is up to date and still supported by debian, but may not always run nicely on older hardware.

For really old single core processor hardware, ( <= P4 ) you may need to use the Ubuntu 8.04 based distro

Anything else and you are largely on your own, either building from sources or sourcing and installing packages where they exist.

regards

Thanks I will stick to what it proven as I need every bit of help I can get!

The machine that I have for the plasma table should run 10.04 as it was running Win7 X64 but it is an older machine I think its a dual core if I remember correctly

Ok looks like I am going to go with Debian Wheezy, I can not find an ISO to download from. The Debian site keeps kicking my to 8.0, There are other download sites from google but I am weary of downloading junk with them.

Thanks!

It was the Linux distribution that I was having a challenge getting downloaded. I think I finally found the right files, between Debian and Ubuntu they want you to download the most current distribution so finding the older ones was a challenge.

I have both downloading now, it said 14 hours last night when I went to bed.....

The Debian Wheezy distribution is included on the LinuxCNC downloadable ISO.

I still have a nasty feeling you did not understand what PCW and I were telling you.

You need to go to THIS sites Home page and download the Live CD, which is either Ubuntu or Debian based.

Linuxcnc will not run on a normal install of either, you need the realtime kernel and modules that are bundled with the Live CD.

Hopefully I am wrong and you have not wasted your time :)

Im a retard....Thanks again guys. Yall never waste my time, I tend to waste a bunch of yours though! The learning curve of some of this is proving to be fairly steep.

That is way to easy to have it as one packaged component!
