Hi all,

I would like to get an all-in-one computer with touch screen for controlling a Stepcraft. This computer will be dedicated to LinuxCNC (GUI for checking and running the router), even CAM will be done on a different box. I'll mount it on a stand, so no space taken up by keyboard and mouse and no cable clutter.

At first I thought about getting a (new) Shuttle XPC X50V6U3, but then I though that would be overkill (@ €400) and I found a used Shuttle X50V2 with built-in parallel port for a lot less. The specs are:

(15.6”) touchscreen (1366x768)
Integrated graphics (GMA3150, DX9)
CPU: Intel ATOM D525 Dual Core , 1.8GHz
Chipset: NM10 (Plattform Controller Hub)
4GB DDR3-667/800 (2x 204 pin SO-DIMM)
2x RS232
1x LPT (PCL68)

Is it worth giving this a go, or is that going to be a project on its own getting that to run with (RT) Linux?

I would expect that to work fine. But it might need the RTAI kernel rather than the preempt-rt one of you are software-stepping.

My mill runs with an Atom D525.

Hello, how ended up your story? Did you tried to run it under LINUXCNC?
