I installed Debian 10.9 LXQT non-free and it seems ok but for the life of me I can't figure out how to auto login.

Bingo! And I even looked at that page briefly early this morning.

Default is to not have any of those directories or that file mentioned in that wiki. So that kinda threw me off the track a bit, I'm so used to everything being there like lightdm.conf.
