Touch screens? was created by greeder88
I configured a sophisticated pyvcp panel and it would be nice to use a touch screen. Has anyone installed the kits you can get on e-bay yet?
It looks like they are linux friendly but I'd hate to buy the wrong one and never get it working.

I've tried a wireless usb adapter and after about 40 hours of fiddling it still won't see my router. I sure don't want that experience all over again.

There is a touch screen interface in 2.4 called Touchy.

I saw Touchy but I did my panel to run in Axis. I have to assume since there is Touchy a touch screen of some sort is going to work but
I seem to have a knack finding the models that don't run in EMC2.

Do you have a link to the kits you mention?

From the IRC

any touch screen that works with ubuntu will work with emc. that's the question to ask, and usually the internet knows the answer.

Here is a link with a little Linux information. Most only mention the word Linux.
Looks like the Chinese are overflowing with touch panel kits. Some are better deals than others.
They all look like the same Chinese manufacturer.

Here is the Readme file from the driver I found on a touch screen driver from Lava in China.

We provide a full range of controllers for
both analog resistive and capacitive touch panels.

The resistive controller communicates with the PC system directly
through RS232, PS/2 or USB port.

The design is optimized for an accurate, sensitive and quick touch
performance as well as an ease of use interface.

The driver supports a set of operating systems,
i.e. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT4,
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition,
Windows CE2.12/3.0/.NET, DOS, iMac, RedHat / Mandrake Linux

I found a link to do touch screen but with Ubuntu 8.04. Can I update to 8.04.1 LTS and still have Emc2 work?

Update: I researched the update question and the answer seems to be: "Probably yes maybe no"
Good enough for me so I am updating. See what happens. If I get a touch screen working I will report here.
Todays date is 2-19-2010 so see how long this takes.

I got a touch screen working in Ubuntu, I used a driver I got from Xorg. It might have been in synaptic, I am not too clear on the details, it was last year for a project unrelated to EMC.

What brand was it?

Today I just found a driver that comes with Ubuntu 8.04.
It is good for the following brands:

eTurboTouch CT-410/510/700
3M/Microtouch EX II series
ITM
PanJit TouchSet
eTurboTouch
Gunze AHL61
DMC TSC-10/25
IRTOUCHSYSTEMS/UNITOP
IdealTEK URTC1000
General Touch
GoTop Super_Q2/GogoPen/PenPower tablets

I could find 3M Microtouch Panels on ebay and the controller (exii-7760ucis) $61.07 at geminicomputersinc.com.
Seems safe to buy a Microtouch but not sure about the Chinese ebay ones.
