DC-Spindle motor problem was created by Anonymous
I have a DC spindle motor lying around and want to hook it up to my lathe. Its a 750W 2.7A 230V DC-Motor and I want to control it with Linux CNC with a PWM signal. I'm not too keen on this electronic stuff but i know you can do this with a frequency converter if you have an AC Motor, but what should i use instead of an frequency converter if Im using a DC Motor?

DC motor control is easy, but at that voltage things get not so easy.
There are plenty of speed controlers for lower voltage at low prices that can be modified to work with PWM, but i can not recal of any that can do 230V.
Do check the Mesa and Pico systems web site, there are some nice drives there that might get the job done without breaking the bank.
