I'm converting an small mill / engraver to use linuxcnc and I have chosen to use some cheap 2M415 drivers.

I'm pretty new to CNC and LinuxCNC and i was hoping someone could help me define the driver timings for these?

Driver datasheet:

I have completed the values below but i dont really understand what i am looking at.

Step Time: 2000 ns
Step Space: 1000 ns
Direction Hold: 10000 ns
Direction Setup: 10000 ns

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi

These are almost certainly Leadshine M415B knockoffs.

In which case see the listing for those at wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Stepper_Drive_Timing
Step Time 1500, Step Space 1500, Direction Hold 8000, Direction Setup 5000
entered in stepconf should produce a working config

regards

According to your chart I think I would set it for,

Step Time: 4000 ns
Step Space: 2000 ns
Direction Hold: 6000 ns
Direction Setup: 6000 ns

But the numbers ArcEye posted would almost certainly work as well.

For the most reliable setup I would use conservative (larger) numbers. You only need to set them fast enough to achieve the speeds you need, anything more is that much greater potential for missed steps.

Looking at the documentation for each driver its pretty obvious they are the same driver.

Thanks for pointing that out. should make the setup simpler.

I will try the standard leadshine settings to start with. if i find its skipping steps i will have another look at the values.

Thanks,

Dan
