Two 7i32 cards on the same 50pin cable? was created by jCandlish
Once again the documentation is unclear.
The .pdf documentation for the 7i32 mentions both a -2 and a -4 version of the part, with the -4 version having 4-axes. Only the 2 axes card is in the price list.
What purpose serves pins 25-48 on the 7i32-2?
Can a single 50 conductor cable be split to interface two 7i32-2 cards?
Thanks
EDIT: adding
Digging a bit deeper into the documentation the webpage mesanet.com/motioncardinfo.html says
the .pdf says
the wiki wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Mesa_Cards says
and the linked contributed components page the wiki references says
So, what microstepping is actually supported?
Thanks again,

Digging a bit deeper into the documentation the webpage mesanet.com/motioncardinfo.html says
current feedback microstep (up to 256 uSteps/ step) capable
the .pdf says
64 uStep/Step microstepping is possible
the wiki wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Mesa_Cards says
7i32 Dual 1/2 to 3A stepper driver experimentally supported using a comp module:
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Contri...tepping_motor_driver
and the linked contributed components page the wiki references says
currently does 1/2 and 1/8 micro stepping
So, what microstepping is actually supported?
Thanks again,

If you look at the source-code of the comp it looks fairly simple:
wiki.linuxcnc.org/uploads/mesa7i32driver.comp
And that is clearly written for 1/8th stepping. But because it is a comp it could be modified for more.
It appears from the manual that SoftDMC can control it with 64 microsteps.
The hardware is documented to be able to handle 256 microsteps.
So I think that they are all correct
I suspect that pins 25-48 are not connected on the 7i32-2 and that you would split the ribbon past the first connector and add a second connector for a second 7i43. However I rather think that you would need PCW to advise on that.

The 7I32 is only available as a 2 axis device
all I/O pins are used
The 7I32 is mainly intended for closed loop stepper use with SoftDMC
(SoftDMC can support the ~30 KHz servo loop needed for true closed loop control of step motors)
