I needs some advice in selecting additional driver boards for modifications or workarounds.

I am currently using Mach3 but would like to move to linuxcnc for various reasons.
I have a 5i25 card that I want to used for hardware step gen.
I would like to integrate encoders for following error to stop the program if this happens.

The Zero3 controller as far as I can tell doesn't have inputs for encoders and I would like to know if there is another way of reading encoders.

If possible the option to not do anything to the zero3 controller.

What is exactly the Zero3 controller? What hardware it is?

A Zero3 Controller is sold by CNC-Step.de with there machines.

The controller is almost exactly the same as this one.

Let me know if you need more specifics.

There are already pinouts that match the Benezan breakout board, but you would likely have
to use the second 5I25 I/O connector (header P2) for the encoder interface.
Depending on encoder type and resolution, a standard parallel port breakout
or a fancier encoder breakout board could be used (say a 7I85).

I like the 7I85.

Would it be better getting the s version.

The encoders that I am looking at are CUI AMT102-V Encoder KIT from Automation Technologies.
