Need Help Making a Custom .bit File for 5i20 was created by BartyBorris
I am trying to make a custom .bit file for my mesa 5i20. I have followed the instructions at
LINK
, which went smoothly. I installed Xilinx-ISE version 9.2.04i (with the service pack 4). When first opening up the project, two files are flagged as missing (see screenshot attached): irqlogic.vhd and dpll.vhd. I found references to this issue searching the web, but the only suggestion I could find was to download the latest firmware from
LINK
, which I did, but the files are still missing. If I ignore the messages and continue: modified the Top9030HostMot2.vhd file to use (uncomment) work.i20card.all and work.PIN_SVST2_8_72.all; (yes, I commented out --use work.@Card@.all; and --use work.@Pin@.all), change synthesis options to speed (instead of area) and try to generate a programming file I get many errors... the log is attached. Eventually I want to make a customized version of PIN_SVST2_8_72.vhd, but I want to at least get the original working first! Any help you can provide would be really appreciated.

Do you have a pin and card file defined in the top level file?

Yes. I believe so: use work.i20card.all; and use work.PIN_SVST2_8_72.all;
I am very new to this, so please be patient if this is not the answer to your question.
Thanks

Yes thats what I was asking
You may need to add PIN_SVST2_8_72 to the project

I'll have to take a look at the project file sometime next week
I dont do much with ISE9 anymore so the 5I20 stuff is probably a bit out-of-sync
you could also try the source at linuxcnc.org and their build scripts
for a simple config like you have they are up-to-date enough

I was successful creating a bit file with customized pin assignments using the latest snapshot from
LINK
to get the source/scripts that you suggested. I ended up using ISE version 10.1 due to some strange errors with 9.2 that I never did figure out (appeared to be related to ISE). Now I only need two 7i42TA breakout boards instead of three
Thanks PCW.
Thanks PCW.
