Thanks Tommy - so if I understand correctly the second option is about reconfiguring the pins on the mesa idc to align with what I already have in terms of the db25 config? Would I still need the bob for the 203v or is that taken care of by the mesa. The reason I ask this is it says it can run 5axis but more if you use b.o.b…

No BOB, none.
Version 1:
-cut a DB25 cable and wire it to Mesa step/dir headers, that is it.
Version 2:
-If the firmware puts the first 4 stepgens on the IDC, you would need a simple DB25 to IDC26 flat cable, 3 to 6$
-The G202 would be wired to normal Mesa step/dir header.

And the cable:
store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...74_81&product_id=273
But it is 3 feet it seems, so that is very good if you have the Mesa and G540 close enough and also have a DB25 gender changer as both are female.
If you have older PC's around, some of them have the same DB25 to IDC26 cable, see if you get lucky.
Instead of gender changer a normal DB25 cable works, you already have that.
