mesa 7i96s and 7i85 board was created by udicomag
Hi all,
I am quite new to LinuxCNC and have trouble setting up a mesa 7i96S with 7i85 extension.
My understanding is, the 7i96s needs to have a new firmware flashed to make the 7i85 work.
All methods I find talk about flashing a .bit file. The only files I find are .bin or .pin,
trying to flash them ends with a "invalid bitfile header" error message from mesaflash.
The download link for the 7i85 board on themesa website is broken so I wonder if that would contain the required files ?
Or do I get something completly wrong.
Thanks for any hint.
Bernhard

Use the files downloaded only form mesanet.com.
You need to flash the Mesa 7i96S, not the 7i85, so the firmware for it should be in the 7i96S section.
Also, do not try to flash random stuff to it.

The correct firmware for a 7I96S + 7I85 is 7i96s_7i85d.bin
You also probably need to update your copy of mesaflash:
github.com/LinuxCNC/mesaflash
(build instructions at bottom of page)

Is it possible to update mesaflash without internet connection? Please advise how to do it?

Its possible, but because of the added packages needed to compile the
mesaflash source, it s likely easier to just setup a temporary Internet
connection.

A few years back, i downloaded the repo (link by PCS) on a PC with internet, compiled it there, then copied the mesaflash file to a usb and had it with me wherever i need it, just make it executable.
Not sure if it works now, but it sure should.
