Hi Rod,
Thx for the tips re running from the command line, I'll give that a try later tonight.
As per my other post there were some transposing errors that you saw, so I think the spaces and underscores are ok. I agree though I'll keep it simple and then expand it from there.
Re the 5V I've got a proper power supply to the board but I'll check your video shortly and verify I've done it correctly.

Thanks all problem solved, I really appreciate the assistance.
I knew it would be obvious looking back so many 'slaps forehead' moments past and coming up.
For others it was the card name, its a 7i96S not 7i96.
Having said that I would have assumed that the return result of readhmid would include the 'S', I see that -verbose option does.
