Is the mesa configuration tool supposed to be used instead of pnccfg?  Totally new to linuxcnc.

Try both, you can have as many configurations as you like.
And do report back what you like better, and/or if you find bugs.
Thank you.

Ok will do! I did a quick configuration with the mesa tool, and tried to open it with pncconf but it couldn't open it, so I was a bit confused if they are the same thing.   Is the mesa tool supposed to do the same thing?

PncConf = developed by CMorley, included with LinuxCNC, easy to use for something that has to deal with thousands of different configuration options.
MCT = developed by BigJT, not yet included, easy to use, has also options for flashing the Mesa boards and some other stuff.
Both are used for making a usable configuration for LinuxCNC, both have a lot of work done by the developers and members here, and both are magnificent at what they do as it would be impossible for new users to make a configuration for thousands and thousands of different machines/controllers in use with LinuxCNC.
