Mesa Configuration Tool II and LinuxCNC 2.8.4 was created by kevin_allein
Hi, I am new to LinuxCNC and just got a 7i96S. As the LinuxCNC website suggest 2.8.4 as the latest stable version, I installed that one from the official installer image. (www.linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.8.4-buster.iso) I wanted to install the Mesa Configuration Tool II to simplify configuration of the MESA card. However it seems to have a dependency on PyQt5 Version 5.15.0 or newer, and this seems to be a problem on Debian 10 ? Does this mean this combination is not possible ?
I tried to install 2.9.0 instead for that reason, but that shows problems on the installation already when using the official LinuxCNC installer image.
Thanks

Version 2.8 is at least about 7 years old and uses Python 2.7
Buster is Debian 10 and uses the 4.19 kernel
Python 2.7 was deprecated on the release of Debian 11 which was based on the 5.10 kernel and Python 3
The current version of Debian is Version 12 (Bookworm). It uses the 6.1 kernel
A version of linuxcnc is included in Debian 12
It is possible to upgrade Debian 12 so it uses the latest verion of linuxcnc but its a bit messy.
I documented it here: linuxcnc.org/docs/2.9/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html
That is why I built an installer for Linuxcnc V 2.9 on Debian 12 which is available here
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...or-linuxcnc-x86-only
Please try it. It should solve your Issue.

You need Debian 11 or newer for the Mesa Configuration Tool II. I see the docs need updating.

Thanks. I used your installer and now the Mesa Config Tool runs.
Have not progressed far beyond that yet.
