It's the Twincat XAE to download.
You also tried to reset to factory defaults?
Also doing "ethercat rescan" won't hurt, might help.

I don't know the syntax for writing a line of code that causes a factory reset.

I'll try downloading the XAE code and print out the config file to see if there's anything different.

I'll also try "ethercat rescan", thanks.

Just to prolong the drama a bit, the Amazon seller of the ECT60 drive reported that a week-long national holiday is coming up, so they won't be able to ship the drivers until they return - and cancelled my order. Perhaps this is the universe telling me to keep working on the ECR drivers...

Installed the TwinCAT app. Good lord, it's an entire development package and I'm clueless about where to start. I was hoping that it would have "add device" and to specify how it acts, then it generates config code. Maybe it can but I have no idea how to do so.

Also, started LinuxCNC and in a terminal window, commanded "ethercat rescan." No change in status.

The developer took pity on me and sent a stripped down version of his initialization code. It fails in exactly the same way. Maybe I'm doing something really fundamentally wrong, except that since the arc generator boots up successfully to OP makes me again suspect that the ECT and ECR models differ in some way not documented. This could explain why the developer - who know the system and code inside and out - can't get it working either...

Oh, as a sanity check, I swapped in a brand new ECR unit that's never been run - same issue.
Is there any way to request the error code from the slave via a Geany terminal, to have the system tell me why it's unhappy?

Did you check product code vs pid?
I just downloaded the ERC60V202.xml esi file, and there is says product code x0A880001,
you have 0x0A880002 in the ethercat-conf.xml you supplied in one of the early posts.
Check Product code and Vendor Information vs vid and pid.
You find it with "ethercat slaves -v" alternatively "lcec_configgen"

I checked my config file and confirmed that it was 0xA8800002. Changed it to -1 and reloaded LinuxCNC. Checked the LEDs and
the status lights are now solid green, no longer blinking. Very tentatively clicked on Toggle Machine Power and immediately heard the steppers start making noise, unlike before. Cautiously brought up Manual Control and tried stepping X and Y in both directions ..... both work.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I was in the process teaching myself Geany line commands that report register contents. The plan was to start poking at them, hoping to have it tell me what the problem was. While I would like to say that I'd find the above eventually, I might also have given up in frustration and ordered the ECT version.

I would send you flowers and a fruit basket but don't want to cause trouble at your end :)

Thank you again - very much - and now I can get on with completing this beast of a project! Just so I know, where did you find the ERC60V202.xml esi file? The rTelligent site has zero downloads on the product page other than the manual.

Thanks, one of the most annoying things on forums are threads about some problem you yourself are having, and either they just end without resolution, or perhaps worse, end with "it's been figured out, thanks." Ugh... HOW?
