I have a machine to retrofit. Seems pretty straight forward (famous last words)
Drives are good, spindle is good, control is shot.

drives are some type of analog input (0-10, +-5,something)
encoder feedback is all differatial (+a-a, +b-b, +z-z)
lots of I/O
I have on hand a 5i25 and a 7i77. Will this get me there to talk to 4 analog drives and read 4 encoders? will it leave me with lots of I/O?
need to get the tool changer working as well.
If I need more/other boards I am happy to buy them.

In my dream world this would be connect the signals and everything works after proper configuration. meaning the hardware is not the issue.8

PS, I am VERY excited to have a full size mill running on LinuxCNC. IMHO it is the best control out here.

Update, I believe I need +-10Vdc to control the drives.

Yes, yes, and yes.
Mesa 7i77 has 6 outputs that can do +-10V or anything in between, and can read 6 encoders as is.
Here is a nice start, no skimping

If you need more IO then the 7i77 can add a single smart-serial card, and then a 7i74 on the second DB25 headers can add another 8. That's a couple of hundred IO lines. Which should be enough.

First time for everything I suppose! It sounds like I have all I need to get this started (except for time of course)
It will take some time but I will report back anything relevant and of course I will ask all the silliest questions.
Thanks for the link Tommy, that will be VERY helpful indeed as well as the referenced tuning guides by JT and Andy when I find them.
