gear ratio was created by billykid
hello, somebody can tell me the best gear ratio with DC servo motors ih closed loop?
I now have on the motor pulley 20, 28 on the ballscrew 5mm pitch.
almost 3.2 mm per motor revolution.
I would like if possible to increase the gear ratio to improve accuracy
without encountering other problems even in small fast movements
Regards
Mauro

Hi
Both my cnc mills have a 2:1 ratio, 2.5mm per motor rev with 5mm pitch ballscrews, I find this still gives a fair rapid speed and the movements
on small moves are much smoother because the servo has more of a chance to make a full movement to complete its commanded move overcoming stiction of the motor better and not as jerky as 1:1 that I have seen and used on some machines.
Hope this helps
Regards Gary

The best ratio depends on a whole lot of other factors, such as the torque/speed characteristic of the motor and the required cutting force.
You probably want the highest ratio which will give acceptable rapid speed, though that is not a trivial calculation.
