If you have saved the file as an .ngc and have it on your EMC2 computer.

In EMC2 go to

File

Open

Navigate to the location of your file and click on it.

then

click

Open

or just double click on the file.

This is where the trouble starts. I have never managed to find the path to a flash drive in the LinuxCNC file "Open" Dialog.
I have managed to (sometimes) find network drives (via a hidden folder on my desktop called .hgfs or something) .
The File Selection Dialog in Axis is dreadful.

The simplest solution is to copy the files off the USB to your home/nc_files directory in the file manager, and open them from there.

I have never managed to find the path to a flash drive in the LinuxCNC file "Open" Dialog.

If you are using the Ubuntu system as installed from the CD, the default action when a USB stick is inserted is to mount it.

A temporary directory whose name is either the volume name or the device name is created in /media and it is mounted on that.

An icon is created on the desktop with the same name and unless you have changed it, the file manager pops up showing you the contents.

To find it from Axis, which indeed has a very basic FileOpen dialog, drop down the Directory combo-box and select /
Then select media from the folders in the root directory and your stick will be in it under that temporary name.

If you have changed the gnome system for another as I have, then you need to mount the stick explicitly in /mnt say and open it from there.

It is usually faster and less hassle to copy the files across as Andy says, not least because you will not be able to un-mount the stick until L-CNC is closed if you read directly from it and there is always the danger of corrupting the original rather than a copy.

Really?

I normally transfer the files from the usb first, but you can select them from a usb drive by

Go to Open

Go to the right upper corner hit the button to go up the directory tree till you get the top /

Then select

media

Then select your usb drive

Navigate to your file.

Really?

Yes.
Though thinking about it, the Lathe Controller doesn't seem to mount USB devices as drives no matter what I do, so blaming the File Open dialog may be unfair.

Having to navigate through a cryptically named hidden folder to find network mounted drives is still silly though.

Many people do their design work in Windows, save the files and then run them on a Linux computer using EMC2.

Good luck.
