I have just purchased a probotix meteor and am using bobcad v24.

I am having issues with posting, saving file and using it in the EMC2 software that comes with the probitix.

any tips?

Could you be a bit more specific about the "issues" your having?

I used bobcrap once and I'm sorry for you having to try and make that part work.

Well first of all

1. which post processor do I need, I have been using the EMC2 Rev1
2. what is the file extension that needs to be used, I notice in the Bobcad FAQ it uses .ncg for EMC, and when opening the files in EMC2 it asks for .ngc, I have had better luck saving them as .NC (in caps) but the files are hit and miss as far as gettin them to open. most of the time EMC2 errors on "M" codes that are unrecognizable.

everything works fine as far as the robotix machine, and the EMC 2 i have ran the sample file with the marker and the router and it works fine.

I need your jedi skills man!

Well my jedi skills are a bit weak... in the ini file you can add more extensions for LinuxCNC to recognize.

linuxcnc.org/docs/html/config/ini_config...sub_filter_section_a

Yea bobcrap is a crap shoot for sure... if you have a paid copy and get the thousands of upgrade emails from bobcrap they should supply you with a working post. If the EMC post won't work try a generic Fanuc post.

Are you machining complicated artsy stuff or just 2-d?

Just 2d stuff, so you are saying to use the Fanuc post that comes with the Bobcad V24?

Well, give the Fanuc post a try if the EMC post will not work.

Might be faster to just write the G code by hand than to try and get bobcrap to work.

Also for 2-d there is Sheetcam and I think you can get the Linux version with no restrictions.

Will sheet cam allow you to draw, or do you import the dxf from a CAD program and post from sheet cam?,..

Sheetcam is mostly for cam but I think you can draw in it but I've never tried.

sheetcam.com/downloads.shtml

Qcad is free and you just need to install it from the software menu.

Sorry to be so down on bobcad but it was the first cad cam program I tried and I'd rather not talk about it now :)

Hi
I did Use V24 and now V25 i have an EMC2 Metric Postprocessor which the Bobcad guys did for me.
I think for a windows program it works ok. But also must say that the guys have been verry helpful with all the issues i had.
And living in and different timezone (GMT+1 ) helps with the sales guys.
so if you did buy it the help you with the postprocessor. I will for instance open an call today because when i try on the lathe an "negative ball" shape
the code looks ok but Linuxcnc doesnt like it ;)- so their bussiness to fix it.
