I have found the old distros that LinuxCNC is packaged with doesn't support my (to be replacement computer) atom motherboard's Ethernet connection, wifi, or so forth. But with the newer versions of Ubuntu it all magically works (I tried a few things to get the ethernet working with no luck). Can I take a newer LTS version of Ubuntu and easily enough buuild LinuxCNC on it? I know this is a rudimentary question, but I don't know a ton about linux past it just works really well :)

Same problem here. I used this:
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?LinuxCNC_On_Ubuntu_Precise

And so far it runs flawless.

Hi

You haven't said which version of Ubuntu you are talking about

If it is 12.04, this works

wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?LinuxCNC_On_Ubuntu_Precise

regards

EDIT DaBit beat me by 2 minutes, but that is 2 votes for the same thing, which gives you a clue
