I have been using since April 2013 ( ubuntu 10.04 LTS) Live version on all my conversions.

All the old sites have changed formats since 2013.

What is the newest live up dated version that is proven ready to use??

And which download site do I use??

My only problem is the dam popup screens telling me I no longer have support if plugged into the net.

The current Linuxcnc Live CD is based on Debian 7 (Wheezy) and is Linuxcnc V 2.7. It can be downloaded here.

As to the problems running the software updater with Ubuntu 10.04, you can fix that by changing the Ubuntu repos like this.

Debian 7 (Wheezy) LinuxCNC V 2.7 is an ugly beast and must die.

Debian 7, while a little annoying at times, isn't quite that bad. It is probably about as much if not more hassle to install Linuxcnc on Mint 18 as it is to smooth out the wrinkles in Wheezy.
