I noticed that using gparted there does not appear to be a swap partition. Linuxcnc seems to be running fine although I have not used any big files. 2.7.14
Is this correct or have I cloned it wrong from another drive

LinuxCNC does not !
Linux would be happy to have it, but it will work properly without it if you have enough RAM and do not push it to the limit.

Thanks. I am getting this message on startup. It is taking about 1.5 mins to get past this and wondered if it was the lack of swap file

Yeah that might be it, but it is also waiting for a network connection, and the last part is strange.
To eliminate the first problem regarding swap, you need to open /etc/fstab as root and just delete the line that pertains to the second partition.
