For hardware PWM there is no output_type 0
(Though I guess the driver could implement this )

So if you enable the hardware PWMgen you get both PWM and direction
on the Step/Dir 4 pins. If you disable the hardware pwmgen (or stepgen4 in
normal firmware) you can use the step/dir 4 pins as general purpose outputs
for software PWM etc

1 more question,

Does the software pwm on the output generate the 5v signal or am I required to run 5 volts to the output (and the output generates the pulse from that by cycling the relay)

Thanks

Which output?

The step/dir outputs are 5V signals but with limited (24 mA) drive

The SSR outputs are switches and can switch 0 to 36V at up to 2A

One of the isolated ones (ssr)

The SSR outputs are simply switches always require and external supply to power a load

for example

+5V --> OUT00+ ---> OUT00- --> Load+ --> Load- --> GND
for a 5V load device

Note that you need a flyback diode across mechanical relay coils

Also note that the SSR outputs are not protected against shorts so
test with a current limited supply or make sure your circuit works
with a mechanical switch substituted for the SSR outputs before wiring
to the 7I96

Ok, thanks.
I figured, just wanted to make sure

Although it sounds easier to use the dir from step4

If you are driving a mechanical relay the SSR output is more suitable
If you are driving an Optocoupler or AC SSR the Step/DIr outputs shoud be fine

The step/dir outputs are only rated 24 mA which will not drive most 5V
mechanical relays. The SSR outputs can drive 5VDC, 12VDC, or 24VDC relays
or contactors

I'm going to send the pwm signal to the treadmill motor controller, which only has 1 wire needed

So currently the SSR relay I'm planning to connect to machine on. Which will energize the controller.

Then on spindle on I would start the PWM signal

I'm not sure how I would close the circuit using an output when I only need the 1 wire

How can I change this

net lowfreqpwm hm2_7i96.0.ssr.00.out-00 pwmgen.0.pwm

To make the pulses on step+4 pin on spindle cw? I set it back to 5 step gens
