Is there any disadvantage to using LinuxCNC as a general operating system?

After a haitus of more than two years I've finally returned to trying to install LCNC on the old PCs donated by my neighbours and after a very frustrating weekend have managed to install the latest version.

For work and general use, I've always been a Mac user and have a somewhat upgraded 2009 iMac as my main machine which still performs exceptionally well. The PCs of the same era that I was donated however, are absolutely abysmal to the point of being unusable - without doubt the reason they were abandoned. Installing LCNC has transformed them into extemely usable machines and I wonder whether there is any disadvantage of using LCNC rather than straightforward Linux as a general operating system?

Well, your are using a standard Linux distribution (Debian), LinuxCNC
is just a program that runs under that (standard) operating system

The one real difference is that LinuxCNC runs under a real time kernel
This has some minor performance disadvantages compared to a normal
non-realtime kernel (the kernel changes needed to provide low latency
do impact normal performance to some degree, though usually this is
not noticeable )

Thanks PCW. It looks like it would make sense just to install a standard Linux OS if the machine's not used for CNC ops.
