Hello guys,
i want to order the last parts i need for my Lathe CNC Build and on of those things is VFD and a Motor for the spindle.
It will be a 3 or 4kw 380v Motor.
I have a 100ppr Omrom encoder: pl.aliexpress.com/item/32892019777.html?...1.0.0.37c95c0fu92rKr

Now i would like to order a 4kw VFD, but i am not sure if the famous, but cheap Huanyang VFD can be used in combination with the encoder for thread cutting on a Lathe. (i am using a 3kw Huanyang VFD on my CNC Router with standard parallel port card without encoder (USB-to-RS485 for speed control) and i am pretty happy with it)

I doesnt need to be a Huanyang, but i do not really know exactly what futures the VFD has to have to work properly with the Mesa 7i76E for thread cutting.

Do i need to have a brake resistor or is it only important for for rigid tapping on a mill ?

If you have any recommendations for a good, but not too expensive VFD then let me know it please.

Thanks in advance!

Br,
Denis

I don't have any recommendations for VFDs

I suspect the brake resistor would be more important
for rigid tapping as it would determine how fast you could
reverse and hence the somewhat uncontrolled tapping depth

Braking might be also an issue for CSS since lathe spindles/chucks
have considerable inertia

Okay thanks.

Good to know that i dont need the braking resistor.

I think i will take the huanyang, just because there are a lot of informations for the setup etc.
