Good Morning.

I am planning to build a plasma Cutter but parts are coming in slowly.
For now I would like to thest if my stepper motors are fine and test Acceleration etc.

My hardware is a Macbook pro with a live image. Linuxcnc 2.8 ( I do not want to install Linuxcnc on this computer just want to test the Stepper motors.

Mesa 7i76e board
Stepper motor drivers TB 6600
Stepper motors Nema 23 3Nm

Problem I can not save configurations with the Live image.

Is there a way to test the Stepper motors without installing linuxcnc on the Hard Drive?
Or do I first have to get another computer. Where I can install linuxcnc?

You can save configs to another USB, if there are free ports on the Mac! :)
Live image is a fully functional one, so everything works as on a normal install, just do not leave blank spaces on the file and folder names for the config, and the config can be saved and used from anywhere on the PC or USB, or even over the network, but that needs a bit of tinkering.

Thanks for the Assurance that the live image is fully functional. Yes I have an additional Usb port so saving a file to an additional Usb drive is an option Unfortunateley on version 2.8 there are noe smple files included for 7i76e
Is there anyone who has a config file for the 7i76e board. Even a file for a lathe or a Mill will do the only thing I want to do for now is test the stepper motors.

Use pncconf from the menu, it is fully supported so it takes under 5 minutes to have a working config normally.

Do I need to connect my Mesa board before starting configuration?

Making a config does not require have the board connected and powered, running the config does.
Or you can use many SIM configs with no hardware attached.

So I made a quick config file. Not sure If I did it right.
I ohly filled in the info about the XYZA axis.
Left the pages about encoder and Io ports empty.

But i keep getting error messages and Linuxcnc quits.
What Am I missing?

When LinuxCNC errors out it opens a window with info about why it did not start, and on the bottom of that window there is the "create report file" button, click on that then upload the file created by it .

That is exactly what I did.
But then it did not allow me to attach it because the file extension was not allowed so I changed it to txt. And it was allowing me to upload the file.

What would be the correct way of Uploading the report file?
