7i84 not working was created by stegrg
I have a 7i84 connected to a 7i47 connected to a 5i24. I can't seem to get the 7i84 card working. I can't see it anywhere in Hal Configurations. I currently have 2 yellow LEDs (CR2 and CR8) and a red LED (CR6) illuminated on the board. I've tried wiring it every which way with regards to TX and RX signals but I still isn't recognized in HAL. I currently have it wired to TX/RX 8 on my 7i47 card that is connected to P3 on the 5i24 card.

Do I need anything in my Hal file to recognized the 7i84 card?

You would need 5I24 firmware for the 7I47 that has at least one sserial interface
(and the proper connections)

Peter,

Thanks for the reply.
Attached is my Readhmid file. I'm using TXData0 (Pin#33) and RXData0 (Pin#19) in the Readhmid file. I'm assuming this corresponds to P3 Pin 7/8 (RX8 /RX8) and Pin 13/14 (TX8 /TX8) on the 7i47 card. +5V and GND are wired correctly. (I checked power on the 7i84 board).
This is how the 7i47 is wired to the 7i84.
7i84Pin 7i47Pin
1 (RXA) --> 14 (/TX8)
2 (RXB) --> 13 (TX8)
3 (TXA) --> 8 (/RX8)
4 (GND) --> 11 (GND)
5 (GND) --> 18 (GND)
6 (TXB) --> 7 (RX8)
7 (+5V) --> 17 (+5V)
8 (+5V) --> 14 (+5V)

Is this wired correctly?

That looks correct

Sure you are on the correct 5I24 connector and you
have both field power connections ( A and B ) to the 7I84?

I forgot to include the readhmid file in my previous message.

I think I am using the correct 5i24 connector.
Yes, I have 12V going to VIN, VFIELDA and VFIELDB

OK, that helps, the 7I47 is using sserial port 1.
This needs to be explicitly enabled in the hal file
with a token like "sserial_port_1=1234xxxx"
in the driver command line

I tried making the changes to my hal file but it still isn't working. Attached below is the line in my Hal file:
hm2_pci config="ssi_chan_0=x_fine%17fe ssi_chan_1=x_coarse%25fe ssi_chan_2=y_fine%25fe ssi_chan_3=y_coarse%25fe ssi_chan_4=z_fine%25fe ssi_chan_5=z_coarse%25fe ssi_chan_6=s_fine%25fe ssi_chan_7=s_coarse%25fe num_encoders=1 num_pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=5 sserial_port_1=1234xxxx"

Try adding
debug 5
above the "loadrt hostmot2" line in the HAL.

Then start LinuxCNC from the command-line and paste the terminal output here.
