I recently picked up one of these units with a i7 processor. Upgraded it to 16gb memory and a M2 drive and installed
Debian 12 Bookworm PREEMPT-RT ISO
.
I plan to test it with Linuxcnc using a Mesa 7i92TF and a Gecko G540 running a Taig 5023CR micro mill. (Currently, the machine is running on an old gaming rig with a i7 and pcie parallel port attached to the Gecko without any real issues.) I have noticed that the EliteDesk has significantly higher latency even restricted to a single core...
Before I get too deep into the project, does anyone have any experience with this computer and/or any gotchas to be aware of right out of the gate?
Thanks,
Randale

Thanks.
I reviewed most of that info prior to accepting this unit, but it was unclear to me whether the issues had been (or could be) satisfactorily resolved. Maybe I just overlooked that info. I guess I'll just have to tinker a bit and see if the unit is worth the hassle or maybe it should be repurposed for something else.

I would not think there would be an issue.
The 65W 800 G2 with the I5 works very well and the 35W model
worked well but only when the BIOS was in UEFI mode
The latency test is not really important as long as the network
latency does not cause dropped out packets (more than 800 usec delay)

Thanks.
I'll focus on the potential NIC issues then.

Since it has an Intel NIC, it should have IRQ coalescing
disabled (easiest way is in the interfaces file as described
in the hm2_eth manual page)
